The Problem: Marble Etch Marks
Marble is made up of calcium carbonate which violently reacts with any acidic agent. So unfortunately, when acids touch marble , the acids almost instantly create light dull marks called etch marks in a matter of seconds.
Etch marks typically show up as light dull marks because when the acid reacts with the marble surface it physically dissolves part of the top surface of the marble. Once part of the marble is dissolved, marble below the surface is exposed. This newly exposed marble is not polished and therefore looks dull compared to its great looking polished surroundings. Examples of these etch marks are shown below.

A couple of key tips from this video:
1. Do not put to much polishing powder over the mark. It makes the process easier to manage, and if the marble etch mark is not removed on the first try then you can always repeat the process.
2. Be sure to use a white towel! This will prevent any pigments from the towel from entering or staining the marble while you are polishing away the stain.
3. Be sure to wet the white towel as well as the marble polishing powder.
4. With your white towel, rub softly in circular motions. Do not use a lot of pressure, rub at high frequency in a nice circular motion.
5. Once you are finished, clean up using a marble cleaner to make the marble look even better.
